Disability Evaluation definition: Determination of the degree of a physical, mental, or emotional handicap. The diagnosis is applied to legal qualification for benefits and income under disability insurance and to eligibility for Social Security and workmen's compensation benefits.
Drug Evaluation definition: Any process by which toxicity, metabolism, absorption, elimination, preferred route of administration, safe dosage range, etc., for a drug or group of drugs is determined through clinical assessment in humans or veterinary animals.
Drug Evaluation, Preclinical definition: Preclinical testing of drugs in experimental animals or in vitro for their biological and toxic effects and potential clinical applications.
Health Services Research definition: The integration of epidemiologic, sociological, economic, and other analytic sciences in the study of health services. Nursing Evaluation Research definition: Research carried out by nurses that uses interviews, data collection, observation, surveys, etc., to evaluate nursing, health, clinical, and nursing education programs and curricula, and which also demonstrates the value of such evaluation.
Program Evaluation definition: Studies designed to assess the efficacy of programs. They may include the evaluation of cost-effectiveness, the extent to which objectives are met, or impact.
Qualitative Evaluation definition: A type of evaluation that is primarily descriptive and interpretative, and may or may not lend itself to quantification. Mainly concerned with the properties, the state, and the character (i.e., the nature) of phenomena. It implies an emphasis on processes and meanings that are rigorously examined, but not measured in terms of quantity, amount, or frequency. Work Capacity Evaluation definition: Assessment of physiological capacities in relation to job requirements. It is usually done by measuring certain physiological (e.g., circulatory and respiratory) variables during a gradually increasing workload until specific limitations occur with respect to those variables.
Drug Utilization Review definition: Formal programs for assessing drug prescription against some standard. Drug utilization review may consider clinical appropriateness, cost effectiveness, and, in some cases, outcomes. Review is usually retrospective, but some analysis may be done before drugs are dispensed (as in computer systems which advise physicians when prescriptions are entered). Drug utilization review is mandated for Medicaid programs beginning in 1993.
Evaluation definition: Systematic, objective appraisal of the significance, effectiveness, and impact of activities or condition according to specified objectives and criteria.
