Attachment Sites, Microbiological definition: Specific loci on both the bacterial DNA (attB) and the phage DNA (attP) which delineate the sites where recombination takes place between them, as the phage DNA becomes integrated (inserted) into the BACTERIAL DNA during LYSOGENY.
Denture Precision Attachment definition: A precision device used for attaching a fixed or removable partial denture to the crown of an abutment tooth or a restoration. One type is the intracoronal attachment and the other type is the extracoronal attachment. It consists of a female portion within the coronal portion of the crown of an abutment and a fitted male portion attached to the denture proper. (Jablonski, Dictionary of Dentistry, 1992, p85; from Boucher's Clinical Dental Terminology, 4th ed, p264)
Dental Attachments, Precision definition: Dental attachments fabricated using special metal alloys under precise tolerances (i.e., high-precision attachments), which are designed to attach partial dentures (including overlay partial dentures) to receptacles that are connected to or within an abutment (e.g., tooth, dental implant, abutment crown). These attachments are typically two-component devices that attach to each other with a high degree of precision; one component is fixed to an abutment or may be supported by tissue and a second component is an integral part of the partial denture base. Precision dental attachments may be rigid or have several degrees of resilience according to the torque transmitted to the abutment; they are available as intra- and extracoronal devices according to the fixation site. Precision dental attachments usually distribute chewing forces better and provide better cosmetic results than conventional clasp attachments.
Object Attachment definition: Emotional attachment to someone or something in the environment.
Soluble N-Ethylmaleimide-Sensitive Factor Attachment Proteins definition: SNARE binding proteins that facilitate the ATP hydrolysis-driven dissociation of the SNARE complex. They are required for the binding of N-ETHYLMALEIMIDE-SENSITIVE PROTEIN (NSF) to the SNARE complex which also stimulates the ATPASE activity of NSF. They are unrelated structurally to SNAP-25 PROTEIN.
Periodontal Attachment Loss definition: Loss or destruction of periodontal tissue caused by periodontitis or other destructive periodontal diseases or by injury during instrumentation. Attachment refers to the periodontal ligament which attaches to the alveolar bone. It has been hypothesized that treatment of the underlying periodontal disease and the seeding of periodontal ligament cells enable the creating of new attachment.
Reactive Attachment Disorder definition: Markedly disturbed and developmentally inappropriate social relatedness that begins before age 5 and is associated with grossly pathological child care. The child may persistently fail to initiate and respond to social interactions in a developmentally appropriate way (inhibited type) or there may be a pattern of diffuse attachments with nondiscriminate sociability (disinhibited type). (From DSM-IV, 1994)
cell-matrix adhesion definition: The binding of a cell to the extracellular matrix via adhesion molecules. [GOC:hb]
cell-substrate junction definition: A cell junction that forms a connection between a cell and the extracellular matrix. [GOC:hb, GOC:mah]
Cell-Matrix Junctions definition: Specialized areas at the CELL MEMBRANE where a cell attaches to the EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX or other substratum.
Cell-Matrix Adhesion definition: Mechanisms whereby cells attach to the extracellular matrix.
Anatomical attachment definition: Anatomical connectivity which is established by tissues of different classes of connecting anatomical structures. Examples: muscle attachment to bone, visceral pleura attached to lung, belly of biceps brachii attached to tendon of insertion of biceps brachii.
attachment of GPI anchor to protein definition: A transamidation reaction that results in the cleavage of the polypeptide chain and the concomitant transfer of the GPI anchor to the newly formed carboxy-terminal amino acid of the anchored protein. The cleaved C-terminal contains the C-terminal GPI signal sequence of the newly synthesized polypeptide chain. [ISBN:0879695595]
virion attachment to host cell surface receptor definition: Any process involved in the specific binding of a viral antireceptor to a cell surface receptor. [ISBN:0781702534]
Attached_to relation definition: Connected_to relation which holds between each anatomical structure of type A and some structure B such that some of the constitutional parts of the structure in type A are intermingled with some of the constitutional parts of the structure in type B across a fiat part of their maximal boundary which the related structures share.
muscle attachment definition: The developmental process by which a skeletal muscle attaches to its target (such as bone or body wall). [GOC:isa_complete, GOC:sart]
attachment of spindle microtubules to kinetochore during meiosis I definition: The process by which spindle microtubules become physically associated with the proteins making up the kinetochore complex during meiosis I. During meiosis I sister kinetochores are lying next to each other facing the same spindle pole and monopolar attachment of the chromatid to the spindle occurs. [GOC:ai, GOC:clt]
attachment of spindle microtubules to chromosome definition: The process by which spindle microtubules become physically associated with a chromosome. [GOC:ai]
Virus Attachment definition: The binding of virus particles to receptors on the host cell surface. For enveloped viruses, the virion ligand is usually a surface glycoprotein as is the cellular receptor. For non-enveloped viruses, the virus CAPSID serves as the ligand.
attachment of spindle microtubules to kinetochore definition: The process by which spindle microtubules become physically associated with the proteins making up the kinetochore complex. [GOC:vw, PMID:10322137]
Attachment definition: The act of affixing one thing to another.
bonding/attachment definition: A mutual, positive relationship between two people such as a parent/caregiver and an infant/child.
attachment organelle definition: A membrane-bounded extension of the cell, originally characterized in Mycoplasma species, that contains an electron-dense core that is part of the cytoskeleton and is oriented lengthwise and ends distally in a bulbous knob (terminal button). Required for adherence to host cells and involved in gliding motility and cell division. [http://authors.library.caltech.edu/3529/, PMID:11325545, PMID:12003948]
attachment organelle membrane definition: The lipid bilayer surrounding an attachment organelle. [GOC:ecd]
attachment of peroxisome to chloroplast definition: The process by which a peroxisome is transported to, and/or maintained in, a location adjacent to the chloroplast. [PMID:17215364]
attachment of telomeres to nuclear envelope definition: The cell cycle process whereby physical connections are formed between telomeres and the nuclear envelope, facilitating bouquet formation. [GOC:jp, PMID:18818742]
microtubule anchoring at spindle pole body definition: Any process by which a microtubule is maintained in a specific location in a cell by attachment to a spindle pole body. Microtubules attach to spindle pole bodies at the minus end. [GOC:mah, PMID:17486116]
attachment definition: Attachement.
attachment definition: Dévouement.
