Brachial Artery definition: The continuation of the axillary artery; it branches into the radial and ulnar arteries.
BRACHIAL ARTERY definition: An artery originating at the axillary artery and branching into the radial and ulnar arteries. (NCI)
Brachial Artery definition: An artery originating at the axillary artery and branching into the radial and ulnar arteries.
Brachial Plexus definition: The large network of nerve fibers which distributes the innervation of the upper extremity. The brachial plexus extends from the neck into the axilla. In humans, the nerves of the plexus usually originate from the lower cervical and the first thoracic spinal cord segments (C5-C8 and T1), but variations are not uncommon.
brachial plexus definition: (BRAY-kee-ul PLEKS-us) A network of nerves that sends signals from the spine to the arm and hand.
BRACHIAL PLEXUS definition: A nerve network originating from C5 to T1 that supplies cutaneous and muscular innervation to the arm and hand. (NCI)
Brachial Plexus definition: A nerve network originating from C5 to T1 that supplies cutaneous and muscular innervation to the arm and hand.
Subclavian Steal Syndrome definition: A clinically significant reduction in blood supply to the BRAIN STEM and CEREBELLUM (i.e., VERTEBROBASILAR INSUFFICIENCY) resulting from reversal of blood flow through the VERTEBRAL ARTERY from occlusion or stenosis of the proximal subclavian or brachiocephalic artery. Common symptoms include VERTIGO; SYNCOPE; and INTERMITTENT CLAUDICATION of the involved upper extremity. Subclavian steal may also occur in asymptomatic individuals. (From J Cardiovasc Surg 1994;35(1):11-4; Acta Neurol Scand 1994;90(3):174-8)
Anesthesia Kits, Brachial Plexus definition: Prepackaged collections (either custom or standard) of equipment and supplies used for administration of one of several upper extremity nerve blocks. These types of nerve blocks could involve the supraclavicular, interscalene, infraclavicular, axillary, and/or brachial plexus locations.
Brachial Plexus Neuritis definition: A syndrome associated with inflammation of the BRACHIAL PLEXUS. Clinical features include severe pain in the shoulder region which may be accompanied by MUSCLE WEAKNESS and loss of sensation in the upper extremity. This condition may be associated with VIRUS DISEASES; IMMUNIZATION; SURGERY; heroin use (see HEROIN DEPENDENCE); and other conditions. The term brachial neuralgia generally refers to pain associated with brachial plexus injury. (From Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, pp1355-6)
Brachial Vein definition: Deep vein of the upper arm that forms at the junction of the radial and ulnar veins and ends at the inferior border of the teres major.
Arm definition: The superior part of the upper extremity between the SHOULDER and the ELBOW.
Brachial Plexus Neuropathies definition: Diseases of the cervical (and first thoracic) roots, nerve trunks, cords, and peripheral nerve components of the BRACHIAL PLEXUS. Clinical manifestations include regional pain, PARESTHESIA; MUSCLE WEAKNESS, and decreased sensation (HYPESTHESIA) in the upper extremity. These disorders may be associated with trauma (including BIRTH INJURIES); THORACIC OUTLET SYNDROME; NEOPLASMS; NEURITIS; RADIOTHERAPY; and other conditions. (From Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, pp1351-2)
brachial plexopathy definition: (BRAY-kee-ul pleks-AH-pah-thee) A condition marked by numbness, tingling, pain, weakness, or limited movement in the arm or hand. It is caused by an impairment of the brachial plexus, a network of nerves that affect the arm and hand.
Brachial Plexopathy definition: A brachial plexus disorder characterized by regional paresthesia, pain and muscle weakness, and limited movement in the arm or hand.
Ankle Brachial Index definition: Comparison of the BLOOD PRESSURE between the BRACHIAL ARTERY and the POSTERIOR TIBIAL ARTERY. It is a predictor of PERIPHERAL ARTERIAL DISEASE.
Toe Brachial Index definition: An alternative to the ankle-brachial index.
