3',5'-Cyclic-AMP Phosphodiesterases definition: Enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of CYCLIC AMP to form adenosine 5'-phosphate. The enzymes are widely distributed in animal tissue and control the level of intracellular cyclic AMP. Many specific enzymes classified under this heading demonstrate additional spcificity for 3',5'-cyclic IMP and CYCLIC GMP.
8-Bromo Cyclic Adenosine Monophosphate definition: A long-acting derivative of cyclic AMP. It is an activator of cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase, but resistant to degradation by cyclic AMP phosphodiesterase.
Cyclic AMP definition: An adenine nucleotide containing one phosphate group which is esterified to both the 3'- and 5'-positions of the sugar moiety. It is a second messenger and a key intracellular regulator, functioning as a mediator of activity for a number of hormones, including epinephrine, glucagon, and ACTH.
cyclic AMP definition: adenine nucleotide containing one phosphate group which is esterified to both the 3' and 5' positions of the sugar moiety; it is a second messenger and a key intracellular regulator, functioning as a mediator of activity for a number of hormones.
(MeSH)
Concentration Camps definition: Facilities in which war or political prisoners are confined.
Bucladesine definition: A cyclic nucleotide derivative that mimics the action of endogenous CYCLIC AMP and is capable of permeating the cell membrane. It has vasodilator properties and is used as a cardiac stimulant. (From Merck Index, 11th ed)
Receptors, Cyclic AMP definition: Cell surface proteins that bind cyclic AMP with high affinity and trigger intracellular changes which influence the behavior of cells. The best characterized cyclic AMP receptors are those of the slime mold Dictyostelium discoideum. The transcription regulator CYCLIC AMP RECEPTOR PROTEIN of prokaryotes is not included nor are the eukaryotic cytoplasmic cyclic AMP receptor proteins which are the regulatory subunits of CYCLIC AMP-DEPENDENT PROTEIN KINASES.
cyclic AMP receptor definition: cell surface receptor found in slime mold Dictyostelium discoideum, where cyclic AMP functions both intra- and extra-cellularly; or, the CRP of E. coli and other systems, a cystolic, DNA-binding protein of the steroid receptor type.
Typhus, Epidemic Louse-Borne definition: The classic form of typhus, caused by RICKETTSIA PROWAZEKII, which is transmitted from man to man by the louse Pediculus humanus corporis. This disease is characterized by the sudden onset of intense headache, malaise, and generalized myalgia followed by the formation of a macular skin eruption and vascular and neurologic disturbances.
tocladesine definition: A substance that is being studied as an anticancer drug. It is an analogue of a substance that occurs naturally in the body (cyclic adenosine monophosphate).
Tocladesine definition: An antimetabolite and a chlorine derivative of the intracellular secondary messenger, cyclic adenosine 3,5-monophosphate (cAMP), with potential antineoplastic activity. Tocladesine appears to be converted to 8-chloro-adenosine by phosphodiesterases and subsequently phosphorylated to 8-chloro-ATP, which functions as a purine analogue and competes with ATP in transcription. In addition, generation of 8-chloro-ATP depletes endogenous ATP pool that is essential for many biological reactions in intracellular energy transfer. As a result, this agent causes RNA synthesis inhibition, blocks cellular proliferation, and induces apoptosis.
Cyclophosphamide/Doxorubicin/Methotrexate/Procarbazine definition: A combination antineoplastic therapy.
Cyclic Nucleotide Phosphodiesterases, Type 7 definition: A cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase subfamily that is highly specific for CYCLIC AMP. Several isoforms of the enzyme type exist, each with its own tissue localization. The isoforms are encoded by at least two genes and are a product of multiple alternative splicing of their mRNAs.
cAMP binding definition: Interacting selectively with cAMP, the nucleotide cyclic AMP (adenosine 3',5'-cyclophosphate). [GOC:ai]
cAMP-mediated signaling definition: A series of molecular signals in which a cell uses cyclic AMP to convert an extracellular signal into a response. [GOC:mah]
cAMP biosynthetic process definition: The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of the nucleotide cAMP (cyclic AMP, adenosine 3',5'-cyclophosphate). [ISBN:0198506732 "Oxford Dictionary of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology"]
cAMP catabolic process definition: The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the breakdown of the nucleotide cAMP (cyclic AMP, adenosine 3',5'-cyclophosphate). [ISBN:0198506732 "Oxford Dictionary of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology"]
cAMP metabolic process definition: The chemical reactions and pathways involving the nucleotide cAMP (cyclic AMP, adenosine 3',5'-cyclophosphate). [GOC:go_curators]
Camp Nursing definition: Health and nursing care given to campers at a summer or children's camp by a registered nurse.
chemotaxis to cAMP definition: The directed movement of a motile cell or organism in response to the presence of 3',5'-cAMP. [GOC:go_curators]
detection of cAMP definition: The series of events in which a cAMP (cyclic AMP, adenosine 3',5'-cyclophosphate) stimulus is received by a cell and converted into a molecular signal; cAMP is the nucleotide cyclic AMP. [GOC:pg]
response to cAMP definition: A change in state or activity of a cell or an organism (in terms of movement, secretion, enzyme production, gene expression, etc.) as a result of a cAMP (cyclic AMP, adenosine 3',5'-cyclophosphate) stimulus. [GOC:ai]
