Antineoplastic Combined Chemotherapy Protocols definition: The use of two or more chemicals simultaneously or sequentially in the drug therapy of neoplasms. The drugs need not be in the same dosage form.
Combined Modality Therapy definition: The treatment of a disease or condition by several different means simultaneously or sequentially. Chemoimmunotherapy, RADIOIMMUNOTHERAPY, chemoradiotherapy, cryochemotherapy, and SALVAGE THERAPY are seen most frequently, but their combinations with each other and surgery are also used.
combination therapy definition: simultaneous or sequential treatment of a disease or condition using more than one means, such as by any combination of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, or surgery.
multimodality treatment definition: Therapy that combines more than one method of treatment.
Multimodality Therapy definition: Use of two or more simultaneous or consecutive treatment modalities; e.g., surgery + radiation, or radiation + immunotherapy. Does not refer to use of two or more chemotherapeutic agents.
Contraceptives, Oral, Combined definition: Fixed drug combinations administered orally for contraceptive purposes.
Oral Contraceptive Preparation definition: Orally administered synthetic sex hormones with contraceptive activity. The oral contraceptive preparation contains a combination of an estrogen, such as ethinyl estradiol, and a progestagen, such as levonorgestrel or norethidrone. The oral contraceptive prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation and by inducing endometrial and cervical changes undesirable for fertilization and implantation.
Heart-Lung Transplantation definition: The simultaneous, or near simultaneous, transference of heart and lungs from one human or animal to another.
Hyperlipidemia, Familial Combined definition: A type of familial lipid metabolism disorder characterized by a variable pattern of elevated plasma CHOLESTEROL and/or TRIGLYCERIDES. Multiple genes on different chromosomes may be involved, such as the major late transcription factor (UPSTREAM STIMULATORY FACTORS) on CHROMOSOME 1.
Multiple Carboxylase Deficiency definition: A deficiency in the activities of biotin-dependent enzymes (propionyl-CoA carboxylase, methylcrotonyl-CoA carboxylase, and PYRUVATE CARBOXYLASE) due to one of two defects in BIOTIN metabolism. The neonatal form is due to HOLOCARBOXYLASE SYNTHETASE DEFICIENCY. The late-onset form is due to BIOTINIDASE DEFICIENCY.
Severe Combined Immunodeficiency definition: Group of rare congenital disorders characterized by impairment of both humoral and cell-mediated immunity, leukopenia, and low or absent antibody levels. It is inherited as an X-linked or autosomal recessive defect. Mutations occurring in many different genes cause human Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID).
severe combined immunodeficiency definition: group of rare congenital disorders characterized by impairment of both humoral and cell-mediated immunity, leukopenia, and low or absent antibody levels; it is inherited as an X-linked or autosomal recessive defect; about half of the patients with autosomal recessive SCID are deficient in the enzyme adenosine deaminase.
Severe Combined Immunodeficiency definition: X-linked or autosomal recessive disorder characterized by defects of both humoral and cell mediated immunity, resulting in low or absent antibody levels, leukopenia, marked susceptibility to infections, and early death.--2004
Combined definition: Made or joined or united into one or involving the joint activity of two or more.
Vaccines, Combined definition: Two or more vaccines in a single dosage form.
Subacute Combined Degeneration definition: A neuropathy due to VITAMIN B 12 DEFICIENCY or to excessive NITROUS OXIDE inhalation. It is associated with overproduction of the myelinolytic TUMOR NECROSIS FACTOR-ALPHA.
Combined Hepatocellular Carcinoma and Cholangiocarcinoma definition: A rare tumor containing unequivocal elements of both hepatocellular and cholangiocarcinoma that are intimately admixed. This tumor should be distinguished from separate hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma arising in the same liver. The prognosis of this tumor is poor.
Adenosquamous Lung Carcinoma definition: An aggressive carcinoma with a poor prognosis characterized by a presence of both malignant squamous cells and glandular cells.
Mixed Type Osteosarcoma definition: A term referring to conventional osteosarcomas which do not have a dominant matrix pattern and contain a mixture of osteoid matrix in combination with chondroid matrix and/or collagen fibers.
Combined Carcinoid and Adenocarcinoma definition: A malignant epithelial neoplasm composed of a mixture of neuroendocrine cells with morphologic and immunohistochemical characteristics of carcinoid tumor and malignant glandular cells.
Mixed Germ Cell Tumor definition: A malignant germ cell tumor characterized by the presence of at least two different germ cell components. The different germ cell components include choriocarcinoma, embryonal carcinoma, yolk sac tumor, teratoma, and seminoma. It occurs in the ovary, testis, and extragonadal sites including central nervous system and mediastinum.
Anesthetics, Combined definition: The use of two or more chemicals simultaneously or sequentially to induce anesthesia. The drugs need not be in the same dosage form.
Cabinets, Filing, Multimedia definition: Filing cabinets designed to store information media in several different formats such as audio cassettes, videocassettes (VHS), compact discs (CDs), floppy disks, optical disks, digital versatile disks (DVDs), and 4 and 8 mm videotape/audiotape. Some cabinets can also accommodate long plays, laser disks, and cards. These cabinets typically consist of a metallic (e.g., steel) enclosures with doors to provide electromagnetic shielding and prevent electrostatic charges; they may be either of a lateral or vertical filing type. They typically include several shelves (e.g., fixed, roll-out) and drawers, including dividers that may be adjustable to accommodate different types of media within the same unit. Multimedia filing cabinets are available in many configurations and sizes according to the capabilities required and type of media to be stored.
Combined Lung Carcinoma definition: A lung carcinoma characterized by the presence of large or small neuroendocrine carcinoma cells in combination with malignant glandular or squamous epithelial cells. (NCI05)
Combined Pharmacological and Behavioral Treatment definition: Pharmacological and behavioral interventions, such as the combined use of nicotine replacement and biofeedback, for the treatment of physiological addictions, such as nicotine. (NCI/TRIP)
Combined Prevention/Cessation Research definition: Studies identifying, testing, and implementing interventions among groups of individuals that are designed to both prevent and stop current use of specific substances, such as tobacco or alcohol. (NCI/TRIP)
Hyperlipoproteinemia Type IIb definition: Type IIb hyperlipoproteinemia is caused by mutation in the receptor-binding domain of APOLIPOPROTEIN B-100 which is a major component of LOW-DENSITY LIPOPROTEINS and VERY-LOW-DENSITY LIPOPROTEINS resulting in reduced clearance of these lipoproteins. It is characterized by both hypercholesterolemia and HYPERTRIGLYCERIDEMIA (combined hyperlipidemia).
Combined Method definition: 1. A treatment strategy where the initial movements are indirect; as the technique is completed the movements change to direct forces. 2. A manipulative sequence involving two or more different osteopathic manipulative treatment systems (e.g., Spencer technique combined with muscle energy technique). 3. A concept described by Paul Kimberly, DO.
X-Linked Combined Immunodeficiency definition: A form of combined immunodificiency caused by mutations in the gene for INTERLEUKIN RECEPTOR COMMON GAMMA-CHAIN.
Combined Thymic Epithelial Neoplasm definition: A primary thymic epithelial neoplasm, characterized by the presence of at least two distinct areas, one representing a thymoma and the other a carcinoma. The most aggressive component usually determines the clinical outcome.
