Lens Cortex, Crystalline definition: The portion of the crystalline lens surrounding the nucleus and bound anteriorly by the epithelium and posteriorly by the capsule. It contains lens fibers and amorphous, intercellular substance.
Lens Nucleus, Crystalline definition: The core of the crystalline lens, surrounded by the cortex.
Lens, Crystalline definition: A transparent, biconvex structure of the EYE, enclosed in a capsule and situated behind the IRIS and in front of the vitreous humor (VITREOUS BODY). It is slightly overlapped at its margin by the ciliary processes. Adaptation by the CILIARY BODY is crucial for OCULAR ACCOMMODATION.
lens definition: transparent biconvex body of the eye situated between the posterior chamber and the vitreous body, constituting part of the refracting mechanism of the eye.
LENS definition: A biconvex transparent structure of the eye through which light is focused on the retina. The lens sits behind the iris and is supported by the zonule, which connects it to the ciliary body. The lens is an avascular structure. (NCI)

Lens Capsule, Crystalline definition: The thin noncellular outer covering of the CRYSTALLINE LENS composed mainly of COLLAGEN TYPE IV and GLYCOSAMINOGLYCANS. It is secreted by the embryonic anterior and posterior epithelium. The embryonic posterior epithelium later disappears.
Crystal definition: A solid formed by the solidification of a chemical and having a highly regular atomic structure.
Respirable Crystalline Silica definition: A widespread, naturally occurring, crystalline metal oxide that consists of different forms including quartz, cristobalite, tridymite, tripoli, ganister, chert and novaculite. Respirable crystalline silica is found in industry in metal and nonmetal mining and milling operations as well as in foundries, ceramic industries and at construction sites. Inhalation exposure to respirable crystalline silica causes chronic silicosis, emphysema, lymph node fibrosis and is associated with an increased risk of developing lung cancer. (NCI05)
Polymorphism, Crystallization definition: Different crystal packing configurations which result in different properties such as SOLUBILITY which affects biological activity.
