Congenital Abnormalities definition: Malformations of organs or body parts during development in utero.
Congenital Abnormality definition: Any abnormality, anatomical or biochemical, evident at birth or during the neonatal period.
Aortopulmonary Septal Defect definition: A developmental abnormality in which the spiral (aortopulmonary) septum failed to completely divide the TRUNCUS ARTERIOSUS into ASCENDING AORTA and PULMONARY ARTERY. This abnormal communication between the two major vessels usually lies above their respective valves (AORTIC VALVE; PULMONARY VALVE).
Blood Coagulation Disorders definition: Hemorrhagic and thrombotic disorders that occur as a consequence of abnormalities in blood coagulation due to a variety of factors such as COAGULATION PROTEIN DISORDERS; BLOOD PLATELET DISORDERS; BLOOD PROTEIN DISORDERS or nutritional conditions.
blood coagulation disorder definition: condition in which there is a deviation from or interruption of the normal coagulation properties of the blood.
Coagulation Disorder definition: A condition in which there is a deviation from or interruption of the normal coagulation properties of the blood.
Color Vision Defects definition: Defects of color vision are mainly hereditary traits but can be secondary to acquired or developmental abnormalities in the CONES (RETINA). Severity of hereditary defects of color vision depends on the degree of mutation of the ROD OPSINS genes (on X CHROMOSOME and CHROMOSOME 3) that code the photopigments for red, green and blue.
Ectodermal Dysplasia definition: A group of hereditary disorders involving tissues and structures derived from the embryonic ectoderm. They are characterized by the presence of abnormalities at birth and involvement of both the epidermis and skin appendages. They are generally nonprogressive and diffuse. Various forms exist, including anhidrotic and hidrotic dysplasias, FOCAL DERMAL HYPOPLASIA, and aplasia cutis congenita.
Endocardial Cushion Defects definition: A spectrum of septal defects involving the ATRIAL SEPTUM; VENTRICULAR SEPTUM; and the atrioventricular valves (TRICUSPID VALVE; BICUSPID VALVE). These defects are due to incomplete growth and fusion of the ENDOCARDIAL CUSHIONS which are important in the formation of two atrioventricular canals, site of future atrioventricular valves.
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome definition: A condition occurring in FETUS or NEWBORN due to in utero ETHANOL exposure when mother consumed alcohol during PREGNANCY. It is characterized by a cluster of irreversible BIRTH DEFECTS including abnormalities in physical, mental, and behavior development (such as FETAL GROWTH RETARDATION; MENTAL RETARDATION; ATTENTION DEFICIT AND DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR DISORDERS) with varied degree of severity in an individual.
fetal alcohol syndrome definition: disorder occurring in children born to alcoholic women who continue to drink heavily during pregnancy; common abnormalities are growth deficiency (prenatal and postnatal), altered morphogenesis, mental deficiency, and characteristic facies - small eyes and flattened nasal bridge; fine motor dysfunction and tremulousness are observed in the newborn.
fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) definition: Developmental abnormalities in infants born to alcoholic mothers, including characteristic facial appearance (microcephaly, maxillary hypoplasia, short palpebral fissures, and short upturned nose), growth deficiency, delayed intellectual development, motor retardation, joint abnormalities, poor coordination, and irritability. The pattern of abnormalities varies and may include additional oral, ocular, cardiac, urogenital, cutaneous, and other abnormalities.
Heart Defects, Congenital definition: Developmental abnormalities involving structures of the heart. These defects are present at birth but may be discovered later in life.
Heart Septal Defects definition: Abnormalities in any part of the HEART SEPTUM resulting in abnormal communication between the left and the right chambers of the heart. The abnormal blood flow inside the heart may be caused by defects in the ATRIAL SEPTUM, the VENTRICULAR SEPTUM, or both.
congenital heart septum defect definition: defects in the cardiac septa, resulting in abnormal communications between the opposite chambers of the heart that exist at, and usually before, birth regardless of their causation.
Heart Septal Defects, Atrial definition: Developmental abnormalities in any portion of the ATRIAL SEPTUM resulting in abnormal communications between the two upper chambers of the heart. Classification of atrial septal defects is based on location of the communication and types of incomplete fusion of atrial septa with the ENDOCARDIAL CUSHIONS in the fetal heart. They include ostium primum, ostium secundum, sinus venosus, and coronary sinus defects.
Heart Septal Defects, Ventricular definition: Developmental abnormalities in any portion of the VENTRICULAR SEPTUM resulting in abnormal communications between the two lower chambers of the heart. Classification of ventricular septal defects is based on location of the communication, such as perimembranous, inlet, outlet (infundibular), central muscular, marginal muscular, or apical muscular defect.
Neural Tube Defects definition: Congenital malformations of the central nervous system and adjacent structures related to defective neural tube closure during the first trimester of pregnancy generally occurring between days 18-29 of gestation. Ectodermal and mesodermal malformations (mainly involving the skull and vertebrae) may occur as a result of defects of neural tube closure. (From Joynt, Clinical Neurology, 1992, Ch55, pp31-41)
Vision, Low definition: Vision considered to be inferior to normal vision as represented by accepted standards of acuity, field of vision, or motility. Low vision generally refers to visual disorders that are caused by diseases that cannot be corrected by refraction (e.g., MACULAR DEGENERATION; RETINITIS PIGMENTOSA; DIABETIC RETINOPATHY, etc.).
Visual loss definition: Visual Loss: objective loss of visual acuity during a finite period attributable to an underlying disease.
Furcation Defects definition: Conditions in which a bifurcation or trifurcation of the molar tooth root becomes denuded as a result of periodontal disease. It may be followed by tooth mobility, temperature sensitivity, pain, and alveolar bone resorption.
Heart Conduction Disorder definition: A disorder affecting the conduction system that sends electrical signals in the myocardium.
Baller-Gerold syndrome (BGS) definition: A rare syndrome of craniosynostosis, radial aplasia, delayed psychomotor development, and variable craniofacial, cardiac, renal, and skeletal defects.
