Abortus definition: Products of conception expelled or removed upon miscarriage or termination of a pregnancy.
Aborted Fetus definition: A mammalian fetus expelled by INDUCED ABORTION or SPONTANEOUS ABORTION.
Chick Embryo definition: The developmental entity of a fertilized chicken egg (ZYGOTE). The developmental process begins about 24 h before the egg is laid at the BLASTODISC, a small whitish spot on the surface of the EGG YOLK. After 21 days of incubation, the embryo is fully developed before hatching.
chick embryo definition: domestic chicken or any other bird at any stage of development prior to hatching.
embryo definition: Early stage in the development of a plant or an animal. In vertebrate animals (have a backbone or spinal column), this stage lasts from shortly after fertilization until all major body parts appear. In particular, in humans, this stage lasts from about 2 weeks after fertilization until the end of the seventh or eighth week of pregnancy.
embryonic definition: Having to do with an embryo, which is an early stage in the development of a plant or animal.
Embryo definition: The entities of developing ANIMALS in early stages.
embryogenesis definition: the process of embryo differentiation and maturation; includes the embryogenic cleavage stage and the early embryonic stage.
embryonic development definition: The process whose specific outcome is the progression of an embryo from its formation until the end of its embryonic life stage. The end of the embryonic stage is organism-specific. For example, for mammals, the process would begin with zygote formation and end with birth. For insects, the process would begin at zygote formation and end with larval hatching. For plant zygotic embryos, this would be from zygote formation to the end of seed dormancy. For plant vegetative embryos, this would be from the initial determination of the cell or group of cells to form an embryo until the point when the embryo becomes independent of the parent plant. [GOC:go_curators, GOC:isa_complete, GOC:mtg_sensu]
Embryonic Development definition: Morphological and physiological development of EMBRYOS.
Embryogenesis definition: Embryogenesis is the developmental process by which an embryo is formed and developed. The process begins following fertilization and involves cellular differentiation, leading to the completion of the embryonic stage.
Embryo Transfer definition: The transfer of mammalian embryos from an in vivo or in vitro environment to a suitable host to improve pregnancy or gestational outcome in human or animal. In human fertility treatment programs, preimplantation embryos ranging from the 4-cell stage to the blastocyst stage are transferred to the uterine cavity between 3-5 days after FERTILIZATION IN VITRO.
Embryo Transfer definition: Refers to a step in the process of in vitro fertilization (IVF) whereby one or several embryos are removed from an embryo culture and placed into the uterus of the female with the intent to establish a pregnancy.
Embryo, Nonmammalian definition: The developmental entity of a fertilized egg (ZYGOTE) in animal species other than MAMMALS. For chickens, use CHICK EMBRYO.
embryo neoplasm definition: new abnormal embryonic tissue that grows by excessive cellular division and proliferation more rapidly than normal and continues to grow after the stimuli that initiated the new growth cease.
Embryonal Neoplasm definition: A usually malignant neoplasm composed of primitive (immature) tissues that resemble fetal tissues. Medulloblastoma, Ependymoblastoma, Pineoblastoma, and Wilms tumor are representative embryonal neoplasms. --2003
embryo implantation definition: embedding of a fertilized ovum (blastocyst) into the endometrium; in humans, this occurs six or seven days after fertilization.
embryo implantation definition: Attachment of the blastocyst to the uterine lining. [GOC:isa_complete, http://www.medterms.com]
Embryo Implantation definition: Endometrial implantation of EMBRYO, MAMMALIAN at the BLASTOCYST stage.
Embryo Implantation, Delayed definition: Delay in the attachment and implantation of BLASTOCYST to the uterine ENDOMETRIUM. The blastocyst remains unattached beyond the normal duration thus delaying embryonic development.
Seeds definition: The encapsulated embryos of flowering plants. They are used as is or for animal feed because of the high content of concentrated nutrients like starches, proteins, and fats. Rapeseed, cottonseed, and sunflower seed are also produced for the oils (fats) they yield.
seed definition: structure containing 2 seed coats, endosperm tissue and embryo sporophyte, which serves to nourish and disperse plant sporophytes; usually formed inside flower.
Seed definition: The fertilized ovule of a gymnosperm or angiosperm.
embryo/fetus definition: animal at any stage of development prior to birth or hatching.
Embryo Research definition: Experimentation on, or using the organs or tissues from, a human or other mammalian conceptus during the prenatal stage of development that is characterized by rapid morphological changes and the differentiation of basic structures. In humans, this includes the period from the time of fertilization to the end of the eighth week after fertilization.
Research Embryo Creation definition: The creation of embryos specifically for research purposes.
Embryo Disposition definition: Process for deciding utilization or disposal of an embryo that is fertilized but not immediately transplanted and resulting course of action.
Organizers, Embryonic definition: Cells in certain regions of an embryo that self-regulate embryonic development. These organizers have been found in dorsal and ventral poles of GASTRULA embryos, including Spemann organizer in amphibians, and Hensen node in chicken and mouse. These organizer cells communicate with each other via a network of secreted signaling proteins, such as BONE MORPHOGENETIC PROTEINS and their antagonists (chordin and noggin).
Embryo Loss definition: Early pregnancy loss during the EMBRYO, MAMMALIAN stage of development. In the human, this period comprises the second through eighth week after fertilization.
Embryo Preservation definition: Methods for short term or long term preservation of embryos at the two cell stage or beyond. Examples include short term storage in buffered media with serum at reduced temperature and long term cryopreservation in liquid nitrogen.
Embryonic and Fetal Development definition: Morphological and physiological development of EMBRYOS or FETUSES.
cellularization of the embryo sac definition: The process by which the eight-nucleate single celled female gametophyte develops into the seven-celled female gametophyte. This mature structure contains two synergid cells and an egg cell at the micropylar end, and three antipodal cells at the other end. A binucleate endosperm mother cell is formed at the center. [GOC:jic, GOC:mtg_plant, GOC:mtg_sensu, ISBN:047186840X]
Blastocyst definition: A post-MORULA preimplantation mammalian embryo that develops from a 32-cell stage into a fluid-filled hollow ball of over a hundred cells. A blastocyst has two distinctive tissues. The outer layer of trophoblasts gives rise to extra-embryonic tissues. The inner cell mass gives rise to the embryonic disc and eventual embryo proper.
Blastocyst definition: An embryo made up of two groups of cells. One group will develop into the fetus and the other will become the placenta.
Embryo Culture Techniques definition: The technique of maintaining or growing mammalian EMBRYOS in vitro. This method offers an opportunity to observe EMBRYONIC DEVELOPMENT; METABOLISM; and susceptibility to TERATOGENS
Chicken embryo culture definition: Culture, Chicken Embryo
Embryo, Mammalian definition: The entity of a developing mammal (MAMMALS), generally from the cleavage of a ZYGOTE to the end of embryonic differentiation of basic structures. For the human embryo, this represents the first two months of intrauterine development preceding the stages of the FETUS.
EID 50 definition: Amount of infectious agent or biological product that causes infection in the 50% of embryos such as chicken embryos used in the product potency assay or pathogen activity assay.(NCI)
50 Percent Embryo Infective Dose definition: Amount of infectious agent or biological product that causes infection in the 50% of embryos such as chicken embryos used in the product potency assay or pathogen activity assay.
embryo definition: Embryon.
