Dietary Fats definition: Fats present in food, especially in animal products such as meat, meat products, butter, ghee. They are present in lower amounts in nuts, seeds, and avocados.
dietary lipid definition: lipids present in food.
Dietary Lipid definition: A chemically heterogeneous group of organic compounds found in food that are insoluble in water but soluble in nonpolar solvents.
Dietary Lipid definition: A class of food constituents, also known as fats and oils, that serve as a source of energy and essential fatty acids in animals. The major components of lipids are fatty acids, triglycerides, phospholipids, glycolipids, sphingolipids, steroids (cholesterol), and lipoproteins.
Dietary Fats, Unsaturated definition: Unsaturated fats or oils used in foods or as a food.
Fats definition: The glyceryl esters of a fatty acid, or of a mixture of fatty acids. They are generally odorless, colorless, and tasteless if pure, but they may be flavored according to origin. Fats are insoluble in water, soluble in most organic solvents. They occur in animal and vegetable tissue and are generally obtained by boiling or by extraction under pressure. They are important in the diet (DIETARY FATS) as a source of energy. (Grant & Hackh's Chemical Dictionary, 5th ed)
fat definition: ester of glycerol with fatty acids; generally odorless, colorless, and tasteless if pure; fats are insoluble in water, soluble in most organic solvents; they occur in animal and vegetable tissue.
Fats, Unsaturated definition: Fats containing one or more double bonds, as from oleic acid, an unsaturated fatty acid.
unsaturated fat definition: fats containing one or more double bonds.
Iodized Oil definition: The mixture contains 38-42% organically combined iodine that is used as a diagnostic aid (radiopaque medium). (From Merck Index, 11th ed)
Sesame Oil definition: The refined fixed oil obtained from the seed of one or more cultivated varieties of Sesamum indicum. It is used as a solvent and oleaginous vehicle for drugs and has been used internally as a laxative and externally as a skin softener. It is used also in the manufacture of margarine, soap, and cosmetics. (Dorland, 28th ed & Random House Unabridged Dictionary, 2d ed)
Fat Substitutes definition: Compounds used in food or in food preparation to replace dietary fats. They may be carbohydrate-, protein-, or fat-based. Fat substitutes are usually lower in calories but provide the same texture as fats.
Subcutis definition: Adipose tissue located under the dermis. It binds underlying structures with the skin. The subcutis is important in the regulation of temperature of the skin itself and the body. The size of this layer varies throughout the body and from person to person.
Subcutaneous Fat definition: Fatty tissue under the SKIN through out the body.
Nutrition, Fats, Monosaturated definition: Study of monosaturated fats in relation to cancer.
Nutrition, Fats, Polyunsaturated definition: Study of polyunsaturated fats in relation to cancer.
Nutrition, Fats, Saturated definition: Role of saturated fats in cancer causation or prevention and in general health.
Nutrition, Fats, Unsaturated definition: Role of unsaturated fats in cancer causation or prevention and in general health.
Nutrition, Fats definition: Role of dietary fats in cancer causation or prevention and in general health.
Intra-Abdominal Fat definition: Fatty tissue inside the ABDOMINAL CAVITY, including visceral fat and retroperitoneal fat. It is the most metabolically active fat in the body and easily accessible for LIPOLYSIS. Increased visceral fat is associated with metabolic complications of OBESITY.
Subcutaneous Fat, Abdominal definition: Fatty tissue under the SKIN in the region of the ABDOMEN.
Abdominal Fat definition: Fatty tissue in the region of the ABDOMEN. It includes the ABDOMINAL SUBCUTANEOUS FAT and the INTRA-ABDOMINAL FAT.
