Computers, Hybrid definition: Computers that combine the functions of analog and digital computers. (Sippl, Computer Dictionary, 4th ed)
Defective Viruses definition: Viruses which lack a complete genome so that they cannot completely replicate or cannot form a protein coat. Some are host-dependent defectives, meaning they can replicate only in cell systems which provide the particular genetic function which they lack. Others, called SATELLITE VIRUSES, are able to replicate only when their genetic defect is complemented by a helper virus.
defective virus definition: virus which lacks a complete genome so that it cannot completely replicate or cannot form a protein coat; some are host-dependent defectives, meaning they can replicate only in cell systems which provide the particular genetic function which they lack; others, called satellite viruses, are able to replicate only when their genetic defect is complemented by a helper virus.
Hybrid Vigor definition: The adaptive superiority of the heterozygous GENOTYPE with respect to one or more characters in comparison with the corresponding HOMOZYGOTE.
Yeast One/Two-Hybrid System definition: Molecular biology technique used to identify interacting proteins in a yeast model. A protein of interest (the bait) is fused to the DNA-binding domain of a yeast transcription factor (usually GAL4). (Usually) a cDNA library is fused to the GAL4 activation domain. The library is then introduced into yeast cells carrying the bait construct. Functional interaction of the bait with fusion proteins from the library bring together the binding and activation domains of the transcription factor, allowing activation of a reporter gene. (syn: yeast two-hybrid system) (NCI/OSP)
Flowable Composite definition: A tooth restorative material that is formulated to create a loose, free-flowing mix.
Two-Hybrid System Techniques definition: Screening techniques first developed in yeast to identify genes encoding interacting proteins. Variations are used to evaluate interplay between proteins and other molecules. Two-hybrid techniques refer to analysis for protein-protein interactions, one-hybrid for DNA-protein interactions, three-hybrid interactions for RNA-protein interactions or ligand-based interactions. Reverse n-hybrid techniques refer to analysis for mutations or other small molecules that dissociate known interactions.
Hybrid Composite definition: A tooth restorative material that contains both microfill composites and macrofill composites, and contains a range of particle sizes between .6 and 1 micron in diameter.
yeast two hybrid system definition: two hybrid proteins interact to transcriptionally activate a reporter gene in vivo.
versatile peroxidase activity definition: Catalysis of the reactions: Reactive Black 5 + H2O2 = oxidized Reactive Black 5 + 2 H2O and donor + H2O2 = oxidized donor + 2 H2O. [EC:1.11.1.16]
Hybrid Modeling definition: The integration of both discrete and continuum modeling techniques in representing distinct dynamics and topographic regions of a system.
Scanning Systems, Computed Tomography/Single Photon Computed Tomography definition: Scanning systems designed to combine computed tomography (CT), frequently a multislice helical CT, and single emission photon computed tomography (SPECT) system capabilities. The combined system uses SPECT imaging to detect metabolic abnormalities and CT scanning to localize lesions within the body; this combination permits acquisition of a fusion (i.e., integration) of anatomic and functional (molecular) information with a multiple scan in a single procedure with better results than those obtained when the two images are taken separately. These systems usually consist of CT and SPECT scanners mounted in a common mechanical support within a single gantry, common tables, workstation, monitors, and appropriate software to allign both scanning systems' data and images. The systems may be also used when needed for separate CT and SPECT studies without loss of technical performance. CT/SPECT combined systems are intended to facilitate faster and more accurate evaluations; they are used mainly for diagnosis, treatment planning, and evaluation of therapy in cardiac, orthopedic, and oncology patients.
