biological response modifier definition: a diversity of reagents employed for nonspecific active immunization; used to enhance the immune response; 4 major groups: bacterial products, synthetic molecules, cytokines, and hormones.
Immunomodulating Agent definition: Substances or procedures that enhance the host's ability to inhibit tumorigenesis or tumor progression or that increase the differential between tumor and host susceptibility to therapeutic agents. Thus BRMs can be preventive (vaccines, vitamins) or therapeutic (interferon, monoclonal antibodies, hyperthermia, gene therapy.) Standard, nonspecific therapies such as drugs and radiation are excluded but radiation delivered via antibodies would be included since it exploits a differential susceptibility of tumor and host.
Biological Therapy definition: Treatment of diseases with biological materials or biological response modifiers, such as the use of GENES; CELLS; TISSUES; organs; SERUM; VACCINES; and humoral agents.
biotherapy definition: (by-o-LAHJ-i-kul...)Treatment to stimulate or restore the ability of the immune system to fight infections and other diseases. Also used to lessen side effects that may be caused by some cancer treatments.
Biological Therapy definition: A form of treatment that implies the administration of substances which produce a biological reaction in the organism thus enhancing or restoring the host immune response, modifying the behavior of cancer cells, blocking the pathways of cell neoplastic transformation and tumor ability to metastasize, or facilitating the repair of cells damaged by aggressive forms of cancer treatment. It includes the use of sera, antitoxins, vaccines, genes, cells, tissues, and organs.
Effect Modifiers (Epidemiology) definition: Factors that modify the effect of the putative causal factor(s) under study.
Moderate definition: Indicates the condition may result in noticable adverse adverse consequences but is unlikely to be life-threatening or cause permanent injury.
Severe definition: Intensely or extremely bad or unpleasant in degree, quality, or extent; life threatening.
High Grade definition: Used to describe tumor samples that exhibit poorly differentiated or undifferentiated cells. They are generally expected to be fast growing and aggressive.
chemosensitizer definition: A drug that makes tumor cells more sensitive to the effects of chemotherapy.
chemosensitizing agent definition: agent that acts to increase the sensitivity of an organism, tissue, or cell to a chemical compound.
Perimeter definition: The size of something as given by the distance around it.
PLA2G2A Gene definition: This gene is involved in the regulation of the inflammatory response.
GCLM Gene definition: This gene is involved in the detoxification of endogenous reactive oxygen species. It also plays a role in drug and xenobiotic metabolism.
Miscellaneous Biologic Response Modifier definition: Biologic response modifiers with non-specific classification based on mechanism of action, therapeutic use, or chemical properties. (NCI)
Qualifier definition: A term that helps define and render a concept unique.
Chemical Modifier definition: A chemical that influences the properties of another chemical or biological function. (NCI)
General Qualifier definition: A term that helps define and render another concept unique.
Gamma-Glutamylcysteine Synthetase Regulatory Protein definition: Widely expressed (skeletal muscle highest) by human GCLM Gene (Aldo/Keto Reductase Family), 274-aa 31-kDa Gamma-Glutamylcysteine Synthetase Regulatory Protein is the light subunit of heterodimeric Gamma-Glutamylcysteine Synthetase, first rate limiting enzyme of the glutathione biosynthesis pathway. (NCI)
Biological Process Qualifier definition: A term that helps define and render a biological process concept unique by further defining or describing a specific aspect of a biological process.
Image View Modifier definition: Modifier for Image View.
CBX1 wt Allele definition: Human CBX1 wt allele is located within 17q and is approximately 31 kb in length. This allele, which encodes chromobox protein homolog 1, is involved in epigenetic repression of chromatin, control of gene expression and association of heterochromatin with the inner nuclear membrane.
CBX3 wt Allele definition: Human CBX3 wt allele is located in the vicinity of 7p15.2 and is approximately 12 kb in length. This allele, which encodes chromobox protein homolog 3, is involved in epigenetic repression of chromatin, control of gene expression and association of heterochromatin with the inner nuclear membrane.
Chromobox Protein Homolog 1 definition: The chromobox protein homolog 1 protein (185 aa, 21 kD) is encoded by the human CBX1 gene. This soluble, nuclear protein plays a role in epigenetic repression of chromatin and association of heterochromatin with the inner nuclear membrane.
Chromobox Protein Homolog 3 definition: The chromobox protein homolog 3 protein (183 aa, 21 kD) is encoded by the human CBX3 gene. This soluble, nuclear protein plays a role in epigenetic repression of chromatin and association of heterochromatin with the inner nuclear membrane.
NF-Kappa-B Essential Modulator definition: NF-kappa-B essential modulator (419 aa, ~48 kDa) is encoded by the human IKBKG gene. This protein plays a role in the mediation of signal transduction through protein phosphorylation.
modifier definition: modificateur. Il est traduit aussi par nom épithète.
