Chloride Peroxidase definition: An enzyme that catalyzes the chlorination of a range of organic molecules, forming stable carbon-chloride bonds. EC
Glutathione Peroxidase definition: An enzyme catalyzing the oxidation of 2 moles of glutathione in the presence of hydrogen peroxide to yield oxidized glutathione and water. EC
Horseradish Peroxidase definition: An enzyme isolated from horseradish which is able to act as an antigen. It is frequently used as a histochemical tracer for light and electron microscopy. Its antigenicity has permitted its use as a combined antigen and marker in experimental immunology.
horseradish peroxidase definition: nonEC; a peroxidase isolated from the horseradish plant and used in a variety of light and electron microscopic staining procedures; phagocytosed HRP has extraordinary intracellular survival time and can be used to trace intercellular gap connections, neuronal transport, and vesicle flux.
Iodide Peroxidase definition: A hemeprotein that catalyzes the oxidation of the iodide radical to iodine with the subsequent iodination of many organic compounds, particularly proteins. EC
Thyroid Peroxidase definition: Human thyroid peroxidase protein (933 aa, ~103 kDa isoform) is encoded by the human thyroid peroxidase (TPO) gene. This protein is the primary enzyme involved in thyroid hormone synthesis.
Peroxidase definition: A hemeprotein from leukocytes. Deficiency of this enzyme leads to a hereditary disorder coupled with disseminated moniliasis. It catalyzes the conversion of a donor and peroxide to an oxidized donor and water. EC
Myeloperoxidase definition: Myeloperoxidase (745 aa, ~84 kDa) is encoded by the human MPO gene. This protein is involved in innate host defense by facilitating the oxygen-dependent mechanism of apoptosis.
peroxidase definition: category heading term also another name for EC, MYELOPEROXIDASE, do not confuse.
Eosinophil Peroxidase definition: A 66-kDa peroxidase found in EOSINOPHIL granules. Eosinophil peroxidase is a cationic protein with a pI of 10.8 and is comprised of a heavy chain subunit and a light chain subunit. It possesses cytotoxic activity towards BACTERIA and other organisms, which is attributed to its peroxidase activity.
PEROXIDASE ANTI-PEROXIDASE IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL STAIN definition: Enzyme preparations are products that are used in the histopathology laboratory for the following purposes: (1) To disaggregate tissues and cells already in established cultures for preparation into subsequent cultures (e.g., trypsin); (2) To disaggregate fluid specimens for cytological examination (e.g., papain for gastric lavage or trypsin for sputum liquefaction); (3) To aid in the selective staining of tissue specimens (e.g., diastase for glycogen determination).
Peroxiredoxins definition: A family of ubiquitously-expressed peroxidases that play a role in the reduction of a broad spectrum of PEROXIDES like HYDROGEN PEROXIDE; LIPID PEROXIDES and peroxinitrite. They are found in a wide range of organisms, such as BACTERIA; PLANTS; and MAMMALS. The enzyme requires the presence of a thiol-containing intermediate such as THIOREDOXIN as a reducing cofactor.
Glutathione Peroxidase 1 definition: Human glutathione peroxidase 1 protein (201 aa, 21.899 kD) is encoded by the GPX1 gene. This soluble, cytosolic enzyme catalyses the reduction of hydrogen peroxide to water at the expense of reduced glutathione which is oxidized to glutathione disulfide. Lipid and steroid hydroperoxides are also substrates of this enzyme. Deficiencies in glutathione peroxidase 1 are associated with hemolytic anemia.
bacterial catalase-peroxidase activity definition: OBSOLETE (was not defined before being made obsolete). [GOC:mah]
peroxidase activity definition: Catalysis of the reaction: donor + H2O2 = oxidized donor + 2 H2O. [EC:]
peroxidase reaction definition: OBSOLETE (was not defined before being made obsolete). [GOC:ai]
bromide peroxidase activity definition: Catalysis of the reaction: 2 R-H + 2 bromide + H2O2 = 2 R-Br + 2 H2O. Enzymes with this activity often accept other halide ions as substrates, including chloride and iodide. [EC:]
chloride peroxidase activity definition: Catalysis of the reaction: 2 R-H + 2 chloride + H2O2 = 2 R-Cl + 2 H2O. [EC:]
TPO Gene definition: This gene is involved in thyroid hormone biosynthesis.
GPX1 Gene definition: This gene plays a role in the inhibition of oxidative stress and increases cellular resistance to toxic challenges.
Immunoperoxidase, Peroxidase anti-peroxidase complex definition: Immune stain, Immunoperoxidase, Peroxidase anti-peroxidase complex
