Prosopagnosia definition: The inability to recognize a familiar face or to learn to recognize new faces. This visual agnosia is most often associated with lesions involving the junctional regions between the temporal and occipital lobes. The majority of cases are associated with bilateral lesions, however unilateral damage to the right occipito-temporal cortex has also been associated with this condition. (From Cortex 1995 Jun;31(2):317-29)
Origin Recognition Complex definition: The origin recognition complex is a multi-subunit DNA-binding protein that initiates DNA REPLICATION in eukaryotes.
Recognition (Psychology) definition: The knowledge or perception that someone or something present has been previously encountered.

cell recognition definition: The process by which a cell in a multicellular organism interprets its surroundings. [GOC:go_curators]
NKTR Gene definition: This gene is involved in the facilitation of natural killer cell interactions with target pathogens.
pattern recognition receptor activity definition: Combining with a molecular pattern based on a repeating or polymeric structure, such as a polysaccharide or peptidoglycan, to initiate a change in cell activity. Such molecular patterns are sometimes associated with potential pathogens. [PMID:12507420, PMID:12925128, PMID:14523544]
axon choice point recognition definition: The recognition of molecules at a choice point by an axon growth cone; at a choice point the growth cone determines the direction of its future growth. [PMID:10218152]
neuron recognition definition: The process by which a neuronal cell in a multicellular organism interprets its surroundings. [GOC:go_curators]
recognition of pollen definition: The process, involving the sharing and interaction of the single locus incompatibility haplotypes, involved in the recognition or rejection of the self pollen by cells in the stigma. This process ensures out-breeding in certain plant species. [GOC:dph, GOC:pj, GOC:tb]
axon target recognition definition: The process by which an axon recognizes and binds to a set of cells with which it may form stable connections. [ISBN:0878932437]
origin recognition complex definition: A multisubunit complex that is located at the replication origins of a chromosome. [GOC:elh]
cell-cell recognition definition: Cell recognition between cells, usually involving the formation of specialized cell junctions. [ISBN:0824072820]
cell-matrix recognition definition: Cell recognition that involves the interaction of the cell with the extracellular matrix. [ISBN:0824072820]
ORC1L Gene definition: This gene plays a role in DNA binding, initiation of DNA replication and transcriptional silencing. It is also involved in ATP hydrolysis and the maintenance of cell viability.
Origin Recognition Complex Subunit 1 definition: Expressed by G1 cyclin-dependent kinase activated human ORC1L Gene (ORC1 Family), 861-aa 97-kDa nuclear Origin Recognition Complex Subunit 1 is the largest of 6 conserved subunits of the ORC complex that binds to the consensus ACS of Origins in an ATP-dependent manner, serves as a platform for assembly of additional initiation factors such as CDC6 and MCM proteins, initiates DNA replication, and is essential for viability. Bound to origins throughout the cell cycle, ORC and associated factors modulate local chromatin structure to facilitate replication initiation. Selectively phosphorylated during mitosis and unlike other ORC subunits, ORC1L levels vary during the cell cycle, regulated by ubiquitin-mediated proteolysis after replication initiation. Also involved in transcriptional silencing, ORC1L may interact with MYST histone acetyltransferase 2. (NCI)
CNTNAP2 Gene definition: This gene may be involved in axonal structure.
Contactin Associated Protein-Like 2 definition: Contactin associated protein-like 2 (1331 aa, ~148 kDa) is encoded by the human CNTNAP2 gene. This protein may be involved in the structural organization of axons.
Pattern Recognition, Automated definition: In INFORMATION RETRIEVAL, machine-sensing or identification of visible patterns (shapes, forms, and configurations). (Harrod's Librarians' Glossary, 7th ed)
Pattern Recognition, Physiological definition: The analysis of a critical number of sensory stimuli or facts (the pattern) by physiological processes such as vision (PATTERN RECOGNITION, VISUAL), touch, or hearing.
Pattern Recognition definition: A branch of artificial intelligence concerned with the identification of visual or audio patterns by computers. For the computer to recognize the patterns, the patterns must be converted into digital signals and compared with patterns already stored in memory. Some uses of this technology are in character recognition, voice recognition, handwriting recognition, and robotics. (High-Tech Dictionary)
ITAM definition: ITAM (Immunoreceptor Tyrosine-based Activation Motif) or ARAM (Ag Recognition Activation Motif) (Y-X-X-L-(X)6-8-Y-X-X-L), a protein domain involved in STP, binds to SH2 domain, e.g. in CD247/x chain, FceRI g chain, or DAP12.
