Cisplatin definition: An inorganic and water-soluble platinum complex. After undergoing hydrolysis, it reacts with DNA to produce both intra and interstrand crosslinks. These crosslinks appear to impair replication and transcription of DNA. The cytotoxicity of cisplatin correlates with cellular arrest in the G2 phase of the cell cycle.
cisplatin definition: inorganic, water soluble platinum complex; radiation sensitizing agent.
cisplatin definition: An anticancer drug that belongs to the family of drugs called platinum compounds.
cisplatin definition: An inorganic platinum agent (cis-diamminedichloroplatinum) with antineoplastic activity. Cisplatin forms highly reactive, charged, platinum complexes which bind to nucleophilic groups such as GC-rich sites in DNA, inducing intrastrand and interstrand DNA cross-links, as well as DNA-protein cross-links. These cross-links result in apoptosis and cell growth inhibition. Hyponatremia definition: Deficiency of sodium in the blood; salt depletion. (Dorland, 27th ed)
hyponatremia definition: abnormally low sodium levels in the blood; salt depletion.
Hyponatremia definition: Lower than normal levels of sodium in the circulating blood.
Salt Gland definition: A compound tubular gland, located around the eyes and nasal passages in marine animals and birds, the physiology of which figures in water-electrolyte balance. The Pekin duck serves as a common research animal in salt gland studies. A rectal gland or rectal salt gland in the dogfish shark is attached at the junction of the intestine and cloaca and aids the kidneys in removing excess salts from the blood. (Storer, Usinger, Stebbins & Nybakken: General Zoology, 6th ed, p658)
salt gland definition: compound tubular gland, located around the eyes and nasal passages in marine animals and birds, the physiology of which figures in water-electrolyte balance; also the rectal gland or rectal salt gland in the dogfish shark which is attached at the junction of the intestine and cloaca and aids the kidneys in removing excess salts from the blood.
Salts definition: Substances produced from the reaction between acids and bases; compounds consisting of a metal (positive) and nonmetal (negative) radical. (Grant & Hackh's Chemical Dictionary, 5th ed)
salt definition: any compound of a base and an acid; any compound of an acid some of whose replaceable hydrogen atoms have been substituted.
Sodium Chloride definition: A ubiquitous sodium salt that is commonly used to season food. It plays an important biological role in maintaining the osmotic tension of blood and tissues. The OSMOLAR CONCENTRATION this and other SALTS accounts for SALINITY which influences the types of organisms that live in an ENVIRONMENT.
sodium chloride definition: NaCl; plays an important biological role in maintaining the osmotic tension of blood and tissues; for the sodium salt that is commonly used to season food use DIETARY SODIUM.
Sodium Chloride definition: A metal halide composed of sodium and chloride with sodium and chloride replacement capabilities. When depleted in the body, sodium must be replaced in order to maintain intracellular osmolarity, nerve conduction, muscle contraction and normal renal function.
Sodium Sulfate definition: A white, inorganic crystalline compound with various industrial uses. Sodium sulfate is found in many common electrolyte solutions used in clinical diagnostic purpose. Since this agent is poorly absorbed in the body, and could draw water out of the cells, sometimes it is used as a cathartic or diuretic.
Sodium Chloride, Dietary definition: Sodium chloride used in foods.
salt intake definition: ingestion of salt; includes the behavior of eating salty foods.
Bile Acid Measurement definition: The determination of the amount of bile acids present in a sample.
Bile Acid definition: A measurement of the total bile acids in a biological specimen
Fondaparinux Sodium definition: The sodium salt form of fondaparinux, a synthetic glucopyranoside with antithrombotic activity. Fondaparinux sodium selectively binds to antithrombin III, thereby potentiating the innate neutralization of activated factor X (Factor Xa) by antithrombin. Neutralization of Factor Xa inhibits its activity and interrupts the blood coagulation cascade, thereby preventing thrombin formation and thrombus development. (NCI05)

Hydrochloride Salt definition: A salt that is comprised of a hydrogen and chloride ion that can be linked to a base form of a drug making it water-soluble. (NCI)
salt aversion definition: The specific avoidance actions or reactions of an organism in response to the perception of salt. [GOC:bf]
Carcinogenic Salt definition: A chemical substance that can potentially cause cancer in humans and is produced from the reaction between acids and bases and consists of electropositive and electronegative radicals. (NCI05)
salt definition: Sel (utilisé dans l’alimentation).
salt definition: Sel.
