Site-Specific DNA-Methyltransferase (Adenine-Specific) definition: An enzyme responsible for producing a species-characteristic methylation pattern on adenine residues in a specific short base sequence in the host cell DNA. The enzyme catalyzes the methylation of DNA adenine in the presence of S-adenosyl-L-methionine to form DNA containing 6-methylaminopurine and S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine. EC 2.1.1.72.
Site-Specific DNA Methyltransferase (Cytosine-Specific) definition: Enzymes responsible for producing a species-specific methylation pattern on cytosine residues.
Pregnancy-Specific beta 1-Glycoproteins definition: Glycoproteins with the electrophoretic mobility of BETA-GLOBULINS, secreted by the placental TROPHOBLASTS into the maternal bloodstream during PREGNANCY. They can be detected 18 days after OVULATION and reach 200 mg/ml at the end of pregnancy. They are associated with fetal well-being.
RNA, Transfer, Ala definition: A transfer RNA which is specific for carrying alanine to sites on the ribosomes in preparation for protein synthesis.
RNA, Transfer, Amino Acid-Specific definition: A group of transfer RNAs which are specific for carrying each one of the 20 amino acids to the ribosome in preparation for protein synthesis.
RNA, Transfer, Asp definition: A transfer RNA which is specific for carrying aspartic acid to sites on the ribosomes in preparation for protein synthesis.
RNA, Transfer, Glu definition: A transfer RNA which is specific for carrying glutamic acid to sites on the ribosomes in preparation for protein synthesis.
Specific Gravity definition: The ratio of the density of a material to the density of some standard material, such as water or air, at a specified temperature.
Specific Gravity definition: The density (mass per unit volume) of any material divided by that of water at a standard temperature.
Specific Gravity definition: A ratio of the density of a fluid to the density of water.
3-alpha-Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase (B-Specific) definition: A 3-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase which catalyzes the reversible reduction of the active androgen, DIHYDROTESTOSTERONE to 5 ALPHA-ANDROSTANE-3 ALPHA,17 BETA-DIOL. It also has activity towards other 3-alpha-hydroxysteroids and on 9-, 11- and 15- hydroxyprostaglandins. The enzyme is B-specific in reference to the orientation of reduced NAD or NADPH.
Specified definition: Clearly and explicitly stated.
site-specific endodeoxyribonuclease activity, specific for altered base definition: Catalysis of the hydrolysis of ester linkages at specific sites within a deoxyribonucleic acid molecule by creating internal breaks. [GOC:jl]
site-specific DNA-methyltransferase (adenine-specific) activity definition: Catalysis of the reaction: S-adenosyl-L-methionine + DNA adenine = S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + DNA 6-methylaminopurine. [EC:2.1.1.72]
2-dehydropantolactone reductase (A-specific) activity definition: Catalysis of the reaction: (R)-pantolactone + NADP+ = 2-dehydropantolactone + NADPH + H+. The reaction is A-specific (i.e. the pro-R hydrogen is transferred from the 4-position of reduced nicotinamide cofactor) with respect to NADP+. [EC:1.1.1.168, MetaCyc:1.1.1.168-RXN]
3-alpha-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (B-specific) activity definition: Catalysis of the reaction: NAD(P)+ + androsterone = NAD(P)H + H+ + 5-alpha-androstane-3,17-dione. The reaction is B-specific (i.e. the pro-S hydrogen is transferred from the 4-position of reduced nicotinamide cofactor) with respect to NAD(P)+. [EC:1.1.1.50, MetaCyc:1.1.1.50-RXN]
specific granule definition: Granule with a membranous, tubular internal structure, found primarily in mature neutrophil cells. Most are released into the extracellular fluid. Specific granules contain lactoferrin, lysozyme, vitamin B12 binding protein and elastase. [GOC:jl, http://cancerweb.ncl.ac.uk/, ISBN:0721662544 "Dorland's Illustrated Medical Dictionary", PMID:7334549]
specific definition: The specific determiner indicates that the given Entity is taken as one specific thing instance. For example, a human INSTANCE (quantity = 1,) stands for exactly one human being.
Allogeneic Epstein-Barr Virus-Specific Cytotoxic T-Lymphocytes definition: A preparation of allogeneic Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) specific cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTL) with potential antineoplastic activity. The administration of EBV-specific CTLs, harvested from a donor with an EBV-positive tumor, into a patient exerts a CTL response against the EBV-positive cells. This results in cell lysis and inhibition of cancer cell proliferation. The Epstein-Barr virus, a ubiquitous human herpes virus, is associated with various malignancies, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma, Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and other lymphomas.
Gamma-Enolase definition: Human gamma-enolase protein (433 aa, approximately 47 kD) is encoded by the ENO2 gene. This neuron-specific enzyme catalyzes the formation of pyruvate from D-glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate during glycolysis. It is involved in both neurotrophy and neuroprotection.
ADP-specific glucokinase activity definition: Catalysis of the reaction: ADP + D-glucose = AMP + D-glucose 6-phosphate. [EC:2.7.1.147, IMG:01468]
ADP-specific phosphofructokinase activity definition: Catalysis of the reaction: ADP + D-fructose 6-phosphate = AMP + D-fructose 1,6-bisphosphate. [EC:2.7.1.146, IMG:01469]
