Computer Terminals definition: Input/output devices designed to receive data in an environment associated with the job to be performed, and capable of transmitting entries to, and obtaining output from, the system of which it is a part. (Computer Dictionary, 4th ed.)
DNA Nucleotidylexotransferase definition: A non-template-directed DNA polymerase normally found in vertebrate thymus and bone marrow. It catalyzes the elongation of oligo- or polydeoxynucleotide chains and is widely used as a tool in the differential diagnosis of acute leukemias in man. EC 2.7.7.31.
Terminal Deoxyribonucleotidyl Transferase definition: Terminal deoxynucleotidyltransferase is a unique DNA polymerase that without template direction catalyzes the addition of deoxyribonucleotides onto the 3-prime-hydroxyl end of DNA primers. TDT catalyzes the insertion of nucleotides (N regions) at the V(H)-D and D-J(H) junctions of immunoglobulin genes. The enzyme is present in immature thymocytes, some bone marrow cells, transformed pre-B and pre-T cell lines, and leukemia cells.
Nerve Endings definition: Branch-like terminations of NERVE FIBERS, sensory or motor NEURONS. Endings of sensory neurons are the beginnings of afferent pathway to the CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. Endings of motor neurons are the terminals of axons at the muscle cells. Nerve endings which release neurotransmitters are called PRESYNAPTIC TERMINALS.
nerve ending definition: sensory receptors for afferent fibers, neuroeffectors for efferent fibers.
nerve terminal definition: A cell projection in which the distal end of the axon of a nerve fiber terminates. Sensory nerve endings are classified as either free or encapsulated. The free nerve ending are the most common type of nerve ending, and are most frequently found in the skin. [GOC:ef, GOC:mah]
Terminal Care definition: Actions performed in the period of time surrounding death.
Terminal Care definition: Medical and nursing care of patients in the terminal stage of an illness.
terminal patient care definition: treatment of patients who are suffering from fatal, incurable illnesses; terminal patient care deals heavily with issues such as pain management and addressing the emotional and psychological needs of patient and family.
Dying/Death Measures definition: Actions performed to support the dying process.
Terminal Repeat Sequences definition: Nucleotide sequences repeated on both the 5' and 3' ends of a sequence under consideration. For example, the hallmarks of a transposon are that it is flanked by inverted repeats on each end and the inverted repeats are flanked by direct repeats. The Delta element of Ty retrotransposons and LTRs (long terminal repeats) are examples of this concept.
Presynaptic Terminals definition: The distal terminations of axons which are specialized for the release of neurotransmitters. Also included are varicosities along the course of axons which have similar specializations and also release transmitters. Presynaptic terminals in both the central and peripheral nervous systems are included.
terminal button definition: Terminal inflated portion of the axon, containing the specialized apparatus necessary to release neurotransmitters. [GOC:nln]
DNTT Gene definition: This gene is involved in DNA synthesis. It also plays a role in the generation of antigen diversity in pre-B and pre-T lymphocytes during early differentiation.
Terminal definition: Being or situated at an end; occurring at or forming an end.
Carboxy-Terminal Amino Acid definition: The amino acid residing in the last position of a protein or peptide.
terminal cisterna definition: The portion of sarcoplasmic reticulum devoted to calcium ion storage and calcium ion release. [GOC:mtg_muscle]
terminal definition: Gare, station.
terminal definition: Terminal.
