cerebral ventricle definition: cavities within the brain which are filled with cerebrospinal fluid, including the two lateral, the third, and linked by the aqueduct, the fourth ventricles; lined by ependyma which in certain regions, is invaginated by vascular fringes of pia mater to form the choroid plexuses.
BRAIN VENTRICLE definition: The four connected cavities (hollow spaces) centrally located within the brain that connect posteriorly with the central canal of the spinal cord. (NCI)
Brain Ventricle definition: The four connected cavities (hollow spaces) centrally located within the brain that connect posteriorly with the central canal of the spinal cord.
heart ventricle definition: lower right and left chambers of the mammalian heart; the right ventricle pumps venous blood into the lungs and the left ventricle pumps oxygenated blood into the systemic arterial circulation.
Cardiac ventricle definition: Cardiac chamber which consists of a wall that surrounds the cavity of a ventricle.
Heart Ventricles definition: The lower right and left chambers of the heart. The right ventricle pumps venous BLOOD into the LUNGS and the left ventricle pumps oxygenated blood into the systemic arterial circulation.
Cardiac Ventricle definition: The lower right and left chambers of the heart. The right pumps venous blood into the lungs and the left pumps oxygenated blood into the systemic arterial circulation. (MeSH)
Third Ventricle definition: A narrow cleft inferior to the corpus callosum, within the diencephalon, between the paired thalami. Its floor is formed by the HYPOTHALAMUS, its anterior wall by the lamina terminalis, and its roof by EPENDYMA. It communicates with the FOURTH VENTRICLE by the CEREBRAL AQUEDUCT, and with the LATERAL VENTRICLES by the interventricular foramina.
Third Ventricle definition: A centrally placed component of the ventricular system of the brain located in the diencephalon. Cerebrospinal fluid from the lateral ventricles flows into the third ventricle via the foramina of Monroe and exits the third ventricle via the aqueduct of Sylvius. The thalamus and hypothalamus border the lateral walls of the third ventricle.
Fourth Ventricle definition: An irregularly shaped cavity in the rhombencephalon, between the medulla oblongata, the pons, and the isthmus in front, and the cerebellum behind. It is continuous with the central canal of the cord below and with the CEREBRAL AQUEDUCT above, and through its lateral and median apertures it communicates with the subarachnoid space.
Lateral Ventricles definition: Cavity in each of the cerebral hemispheres derived from the cavity of the embryonic neural tube. They are separated from each other by the SEPTUM PELLUCIDUM, and each communicates with the THIRD VENTRICLE by the foramen of Monro, through which also the choroid plexuses (CHOROID PLEXUS) of the lateral ventricles become continuous with that of the third ventricle.
Lateral Ventricle definition: The rostral extensions of the ventricular system of the brain consisting of two cavities, one on each side of the brain within the central regions of each cerebral hemisphere. Cerebrospinal fluid flows from the lateral ventricles into the centrally third ventricle via the foramen of Monroe.
Right ventricle definition: Right cardiac chamber which is continuous with the pulmonary arterial trunk.
Left ventricle definition: Left cardiac chamber which is continuous with the aorta.
Anterior wall of right ventricle definition: Region of wall of right ventricle which is continuous with the lateral and septal walls of right ventricle.
Anterior wall of left ventricle definition: Region of wall of left ventricle which consists of the endocardium, basal, mid and apical anterior zones of myocardium of left ventricle and epicardium of anterior wall of left ventricle and is continuous with the lateral and septal walls of left ventricle.
Wall of ventricle definition: Wall of cardiac chamber that surrounds the cavity of a ventricle.
Ventricular Remodeling definition: The geometric and structural changes that the HEART VENTRICLES undergo, usually following MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION. It comprises expansion of the infarct and dilatation of the healthy ventricle segments. While most prevalent in the left ventricle, it can also occur in the right ventricle.
Prostheses, Cardiac Ventricle definition: Prostheses designed to assist and/or substitute for one ventricle of a damaged or weakened heart in order to pump blood; they may substitute for either the left ventricle or, less frequently, the right ventricle. These devices typically consist of an implantable metallic and plastic mechanism that includes one pump, which works as an artificial ventricle and pushes the blood from the inlet to the outlet and then through the circulatory system.
ventricular cardiac muscle morphogenesis definition: The process by which the anatomical structures of cardiac ventricle muscle is generated and organized. Morphogenesis pertains to the creation of form. [GOC:devbiol]
Ventricle definition: General anatomical term which refers to a chamber of an organ with cavitated organ parts. Examples: right ventricle of heart, lateral ventricle of brain.
