26S ATP-Dependent Proteasome definition: Proteasomes are large multicatalytic proteolytic complexes found in all eukaryotic cells, and simpler forms have been found in archaebacteria and certain eubacteria. In eukaryotes, the 20S proteasome also exists as the central core of the 26S (2000 kDa) proteasome complex, which catalyzes the degradation of ubiquitin-conjugated proteins and contains an additional 19S complex, composed of regulatory proteins and six ATPases.
Proteasome 26S Subunit Non-ATPase 10 definition: The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex with a highly ordered structure composed of 2 complexes, a 20S core and a 19S regulator. The 20S core is composed of 4 rings of 28 non-identical subunits; 2 rings are composed of 7 alpha subunits and 2 rings are composed of 7 beta subunits. The 19S regulator is composed of a base, which contains 6 ATPase subunits and 2 non-ATPase subunits, and a lid, which contains up to 10 non-ATPase subunits. This protein is a non-ATPase subunit of the 19S regulator. 26S proteasome definition: OBSOLETE. A large multisubunit protease found in the cytosol that recognizes, unfolds, and digests protein substrates that have been marked for degradation by the attachment of a ubiquitin moiety. Individual subcomplexes of the complete 26S proteasome are involved in these different tasks: the ATP-dependent 19S caps are believed to unfold substrates and feed them to the actual protease, the 20S proteasome.
