DNA-3-methyladenine glycosylase I activity definition: Catalysis of the hydrolysis of alkylated DNA; only recognizes and removes the alkylated base 3-methyladenine by cleaving the N-C1' glycosidic bond between the target damaged DNA base and the deoxyribose sugar. The reaction releases a free base and leaves an apurinic (AP) site. [EC:3.2.2.20, GOC:elh, PMID:10872450, PMID:9224623]
