Metalloproteases definition: Proteases which use a metal, normally ZINC, in the catalytic mechanism. This group of enzymes is inactivated by metal CHELATORS.
Metalloproteinase definition: Encoded by Metalloproteinase Genes, Metalloproteinases (endopeptidases) use a metal ion, normally zinc, in the catalytic process and preferentially cleave the Gln-Gly peptide bond. Metalloproteinases inactivated by metal chelators. (NCI)
Tolloid-Like Metalloproteinases definition: A family of metalloproteases that are related to the DROSOPHILA protein tolloid, which is a gene product necessary for dorsal-ventral patterning in early Drosophila embryogenesis. Many members of the group may play a significant role in intercellular signaling.

In the present study we analyze, in patients with breast cancer, the tumor expression of androgen receptors (AR), its relationship with clinicopathological characteristics and with the expression of several matrix metalloproteases (MMPs) and their inhibitors (TIMPs), as well as with prognosis.

There is evidence as well indicating that AR/steroids are able to up-regulate matrix metalloproteases (MMPs), contributing to invasiveness via destruction of basement membrane and extracellular matrix [ 22 , 23 ].

While the matrix metalloproteases MMP2 and MMP9 appear to play a role in GPCR-mediated HB-EGF release, the full profile of metalloproteases, including ADAMs, contributing to EGFR transactivation and its end-points remains to be defined in breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Research 5 (5), 2003

Even if the biological information on lymphomas is growing, the invasive capacity and cell destruction of this neoplasm probably due to the participation of proteolytic enzymes, such as metalloproteases has been scarcely explored in head and neck carcinomas and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas and reactive lymphocytes and peritumoral stroma [ 19 - 22 ].

Abelardo Meneses-García et al.

World Journal of Surgical Oncology 6 (7), 27 10월 2008

The activity of MMPs is specifically inhibited by the so-called tissue inhibitors of metalloproteases (tisullar inhibitors (TIMPs)).
