Cyclin D1 definition: Protein encoded by the bcl-1 gene which plays a critical role in regulating the cell cycle. Overexpression of cyclin D1 is the result of bcl-1 rearrangement, a t(11;14) translocation, and is implicated in various neoplasms.
Cyclin D1 definition: Essential for control of the G1/S transition, cyclin D1 interacts with CDK4 and CDK6 to form a serine/threonine kinase holoenzyme and imparts substrate specificity to the complex. RB regulates cyclin D1 gene expression. Cyclin D1 expression may identify Barrett's esophagus patients at high risk for esophageal carcinoma; risk of progression to adenocarcinoma exhibits an odds ratio of 6.85. The BCL1 and PRAD1 oncogenes involve cyclin D1 gene translocations. (from J Natl Cancer Inst 2000. 92:1282 & 1316, SWISS-PROT P24385, OMIM 168461, and NCI)
Genes, bcl-1 definition: The B-cell leukemia/lymphoma-1 genes, associated with various neoplasms when overexpressed. Overexpression results from the t(11;14) translocation, which is characteristic of mantle zone-derived B-cell lymphomas. The human c-bcl-1 gene is located at 11q13 on the long arm of chromosome 11.
CCND1 Gene definition: This gene plays a role in the regulation of mitotic events.
CCND1 wt Allele definition: Human CCND1 wild-type allele is located within 11q13 and is approximately 13 kb in length. This allele, which encodes G1/S-specific cyclin-D1 protein, plays a role in the regulation of the cell cycle during the G1/S transition. Aberrant allelic expression caused by mutations, amplification and overexpression alters cell cycle progression. These abnormal alterations have been frequently identified in a variety of tumors and may contribute to tumorigenesis.
