Sigma Factor definition: A protein which is a subunit of RNA polymerase. It effects initiation of specific RNA chains from DNA.
Receptors, sigma definition: A class of cell surface receptors recognized by its pharmacological profile. Sigma receptors were originally considered to be opioid receptors because they bind certain synthetic opioids. However they also interact with a variety of other psychoactive drugs, and their endogenous ligand is not known (although they can react to certain endogenous steroids). Sigma receptors are found in the immune, endocrine, and nervous systems, and in some peripheral tissues.
RNA Polymerase Sigma 54 definition: A DNA-directed RNA polymerase found in BACTERIA. It is a holoenzyme that consists of multiple subunits including sigma factor 54.
Colon, Sigmoid definition: A segment of the COLON between the RECTUM and the descending colon.
Sigmoid Colon definition: The portion of the colon that connects to the descending colon above and the rectum below.
Sigma Factor 54 definition: A DNA-binding protein from BACTERIA that is a subunit of RNA POLYMERASE SIGMA 54. It is required for promoter recognition and initiation of GENETIC TRANSCRIPTION.
Stratifin definition: Stratifin was first identified as an epithelial cell antigen (HME-1) exclusively expressed in epithelia. The protein is a putative cytoplasmic, p53-regulated homodimeric inhibitor of G2/M progression that is over expressed in squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. The gene is a member of a large 14-3-3 gene family.
Adaptor Protein Complex sigma Subunits definition: A family of small adaptin protein complex subunits of approximately 19 KDa in size.
SFN Gene definition: This gene is involved in cell cycle regulation.
SFN wt Allele definition: Human SFN wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 1p36.11 and is approximately 1 kb in length. This allele, which encodes 14-3-3 protein sigma protein, is involved in cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase of the cell cycle.
