Cables/Leads, Electrocardiography, Radiolucent definition: ECG leads casting slight or negligible radiographic images, used especially during cardiac catheterization procedures.
Cables/Leads, Electrosurgical Unit definition: Conductors between the electrosurgical generator and the electrode.
Cables/Leads, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation definition: Cables/leads used to connect the transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) electrode to the generator (TENS unit).
Leads, Implantable Defibrillator/Pacemaker definition: Leads designed to conduct electrical signals from the pulse-generating unit of an implantable defibrillator/pacemaker to the heart and then conduct the myocardial signals back to the unit. These leads typically consist of flexible wires that are completely isolated except at the electrode tip that makes contact with the heart. The leads are directly attached to the surface of the heart during open surgery (i.e., epicardial leads) or threaded into the heart through the vascular system, avoiding open-chest surgery; the other ends of the leads are attached through a connector to the pulse generator implanted in the abdomen or chest. A variety of lead systems, including single and multiple lead, subcutaneous array, and patch are available; the size, connector type, and other characteristics of the leads must be compatible with the pulse generator and the therapy prescribed.
Leads, Pacemaker, Implantable, Endocardial definition: Leads designed to conduct electrical pacing signals from the pulse-generating unit of an implantable pacemaker to the heart (i.e., endocardial or transvenous leads) and then conduct the myocardial signals back to the unit. These leads typically consist of flexible wires that are completely isolated except at the electrode tip that makes contact with the heart. The leads are positioned in the right atrium or right ventricle through the vascular system (e.g., subclavian vein, superior vena cava). They may be fixed using barbs or screw-type terminals (i.e., active fixation) or through flanges or tinned tips (passive fixation). The other ends of the leads are attached through a connector to the pulse generator that is usually implanted in a surgical pocket in the upper chest near the collarbone. Implantable pacemaker endocardial lead configurations may be unipolar, with one active electrode contact on the heart; or bipolar, with two active contacts; lead size, connector type, and other characteristics of the leads must be compatible with the pulse generator used.
Leads, Implantable Defibrillator/Pacemaker, Resynchronization definition: Implantable pacemaker and/or defibrillator/pacemaker leads used for sensing and delivering electrical stimuli to synchronize ventricular contractions. These leads are combined with implantable pacemakers or defibrillator/cardioverter/pacemakers for resynchronization therapy in patients with advanced heart failure (e.g., dilated cardiomyopathy) and/or serious heart-rhythm problems (e.g., ventricular dysynchrony).
Cables/Leads, Electroencephalography definition: Wires intended to be used in conjunction with electroencephalograph electrodes to record, monitor, and analyze the brain's electrical activity. Cable/leads connect the electrodes to the electroencephalograph unit, facilitating transmission of electrical signals captured at the electrode site to the electroencephalograph for measurement, recording, monitoring, and/or analysis.
Cables/Leads, Electromyography definition: Conductors between the electromyograph unit and the electrode.
rennin (but this should be avoided since it leads to confusion with renin) definition: OBSOLETE. Catalysis of the lysis of peptide bonds with broad specificity similar to that of pepsin A. Clots milk by cleavage of a single Ser-Phe-l-Met-Ala bond in kappa-casein. [EC:3.4.23.4]
Lead Placement Bicycle definition: Limb leads on the back (shoulder and on the hips).
