Long-Term Potentiation definition: A persistent increase in synaptic efficacy, usually induced by appropriate activation of the same synapses. The phenomenological properties of long-term potentiation suggest that it may be a cellular mechanism of learning and memory.
long term potentiation definition: calcium dependent change in synaptic efficacy that is thought to mediate the memory consolidation function of the brain; induction phase lasts 30-60 minutes and involves NMDA receptors, maintenance phase last 2-3 hours.
