Sickness Impact Profile definition: A quality-of-life scale developed in the United States in 1972 as a measure of health status or dysfunction generated by a disease. It is a behaviorally based questionnaire for patients and addresses activities such as sleep and rest, mobility, recreation, home management, emotional behavior, social interaction, and the like. It measures the patient's perceived health status and is sensitive enough to detect changes or differences in health status occurring over time or between groups. (From Medical Care, vol.xix, no.8, August 1981, p.787-805)
Molecular Fingerprint of Tumor definition: All cell types, depending on their functions, have unique, identifiable "signatures" - special characteristics such as which genes are active and what proteins or other cellular products are manufactured by the cell. During transformation of a normal cell to a cancer cell, the signature changes, and that change becomes a signal of the presence of cancer. (Bypass Budget)
Pain Perception Profile definition: An instrument measuring the affective, sensory and intensity dimensions of pain. (Tursky 1976)
Human Activity Profile Test definition: A self-administered instrument designed to measure physical activity. The HAP was originally developed to measure quality of life achieved by patients in rehabilitation programs for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The questionnaire has subsequently been used as a measure of physical activity in both healthy and impaired populations. The HAP consists of 94 common daily activities listed in ascending order according to the energy required to perform them. A wide variety of activities is represented, including self-care tasks, personal/household work, entertainment/social activities, and independent exercise pursuits. With regard to each of the listed activities, respondents are requested to indicate if (1) they are currently able to perform the activity (unassisted), (2) they have stopped performing the activity, or (3) they have never performed the activity. (from J Rehabil Res Dev. 41(4): 621-630)
Oral Health Impact Profile definition: Measures a person's perceptions of the social impact of oral disorders on their well-being; measures self-reported dysfunction, discomfort and disability attributed to oral conditions.
Metabolic Profile definition: A measurement of all the metabolites of a sample of cells or tissue.
