Odds Ratio definition: The ratio of two odds. The exposureodds ratio for case control data is the ratio of the odds in favor of exposure among cases to the odds in favor of exposure among noncases. The diseaseodds ratio for a cohort or cross section is the ratio of the odds in favor of disease among the exposed to the odds in favor of disease among the unexposed. The prevalenceodds ratio refers to an odds ratio derived crosssectionally from studies of prevalent cases.
Odds Ratio definition: The ratio of the odds of an event occurring in one group to the odds of it occurring in another group, or to a samplebased estimate of that ratio.
Sex Ratio definition: The number of males per 100 females.
VentilationPerfusion Ratio definition: The ratio of alveolar ventilation to simultaneous alveolar capillary blood flow in any part of the lung. (Stedman, 25th ed)
CD4CD8 Ratio definition: Ratio of TLYMPHOCYTES that express the CD4 ANTIGEN to those that express the CD8 ANTIGEN. This value is commonly assessed in the diagnosis and staging of diseases affecting the IMMUNE SYSTEM including HIV INFECTIONS.
WaistHip Ratio definition: The waist circumference measurement divided by the hip circumference measurement. For both men and women, a waisttohip ratio (WHR) of 1.0 or higher is considered "at risk" for undesirable health consequences, such as heart disease and ailments associated with OVERWEIGHT. A healthy WHR is 0.90 or less for men, and 0.80 or less for women. (National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, 2004)
WaistHip Ratio definition: The ratio of the abdominal circumference at the navel to maximum hip and buttocks circumference; looks at the proportion of fat stored on the body around the waist and hip. Carrying extra weight around the waist is a greater health risk than carrying extra weight around the hips or thighs.
International Normalized Ratio definition: System established by the World Health Organization and the International Committee on Thrombosis and Hemostasis for monitoring and reporting blood coagulation tests. Under this system, results are standardized using the International Sensitivity Index for the particular test reagent/instrument combination used.
International Normalized Ratio of Prothrombin Time definition: A measure of the extrinsic pathway of coagulation. The International Normalized Ratio of Prothrombin Time (INR) is the ratio of a patient prothrombin time to a normal (control) sample raised to the power of the International Sensitivity Index (ISI) with a range of 0.8 to 1.2 seconds.
Prothrombin Intl. Normalized Ratio definition: A ratio that represents the prothrombin time for a plasma specimen, divided by the result for a control plasma specimen, further standardized for the International Sensitivity Index of the tissue factor (thromboplastin) used in the test.
