Pattern Recognition, Visual definition: Mental process to visually perceive a critical number of facts (the pattern), such as characters, shapes, displays, or designs.
Signal Recognition Particle definition: A cytosolic ribonucleoprotein complex that acts to induce elongation arrest of nascent presecretory and membrane proteins until the ribosome becomes associated with the rough endoplasmic reticulum. It consists of a 7S RNA and at least six polypeptide subunits (relative molecular masses 9, 14, 19, 54, 68, and 72K).
NK-Tumor Recognition Protein definition: The cell surface NKTR Protein is involved in the recognition of tumor cells by large granular lymphocytes, a subpopulation of white blood cells that kill tumor cells by an MHC-independent mechanism. The protein contains a unique amino acid structure and an external cyclophilin-related domain. (from OMIM 161565 and NCI)
Prosopagnosia definition: The inability to recognize a familiar face or to learn to recognize new faces. This visual agnosia is most often associated with lesions involving the junctional regions between the temporal and occipital lobes. The majority of cases are associated with bilateral lesions, however unilateral damage to the right occipito-temporal cortex has also been associated with this condition. (From Cortex 1995 Jun;31(2):317-29)
Origin Recognition Complex definition: The origin recognition complex is a multi-subunit DNA-binding protein that initiates DNA REPLICATION in eukaryotes.
Recognition (Psychology) definition: The knowledge or perception that someone or something present has been previously encountered.
speech recognition definition: recognition and mental interpretation of spoken words; may also be used to index concept of artificial intelligence recognizing voice, ie, voice recognition programs.
cell recognition definition: The process by which a cell in a multicellular organism interprets its surroundings. [GOC:go_curators]
NKTR Gene definition: This gene is involved in the facilitation of natural killer cell interactions with target pathogens.
pattern recognition receptor activity definition: Combining with a molecular pattern based on a repeating or polymeric structure, such as a polysaccharide or peptidoglycan, to initiate a change in cell activity. Such molecular patterns are sometimes associated with potential pathogens. [PMID:12507420, PMID:12925128, PMID:14523544]
