Vagotomy, Proximal Gastric definition: Vagal denervation of that part of the STOMACH lined with acid-secreting mucosa (GASTRIC MUCOSA) containing the GASTRIC PARIETAL CELLS. Since the procedure leaves the vagal branches to the antrum and PYLORUS intact, it circumvents gastric drainage required with truncal vagotomy techniques.
Phosphoinositide Phospholipase C definition: A type C phospholipase with specificity towards PHOSPHATIDYLINOSITOLS that contain INOSITOL 1,4,5-TRISPHOSPHATE. Many of the enzymes listed under this classification are involved in intracellular signaling.
IgA Deficiency definition: A dysgammaglobulinemia characterized by a deficiency of IMMUNOGLOBULIN A.
IgG Deficiency definition: A dysgammaglobulinemia characterized by a deficiency of IMMUNOGLOBULIN G.
Serotonin Uptake Inhibitors definition: Compounds that specifically inhibit the reuptake of serotonin in the brain. This increases the serotonin concentration in the synaptic cleft which then activates serotonin receptors to a greater extent. These agents have been used in treatment of depression, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive behavior, and alcoholism, as analgesics, and to treat obesity and bulimia. Many of the ADRENERGIC UPTAKE INHIBITORS also inhibit serotonin uptake; they are not included here.
serotonin inhibitor definition: any agent or substance which suppresses, prevents or opposes the actions of serotonin.
Phosphatidylinositol Diacylglycerol-Lyase definition: A phosphorus-oxygen lyase found primarily in BACTERIA. The enzyme catalyzes the cleavage of a phosphoester linkage in 1-phosphatidyl-1D-myo-inositol to form 1D-myo-inositol 1,2-cyclic phosphate and diacylglycerol. The enzyme was formerly classified as a phosphoric diester hydrolase (EC and is often referred to as a TYPE C PHOSPHOLIPASES. However it is now known that a cyclic phosphate is the final product of this enzyme and that water does not enter into the reaction.
Analyzers, Laboratory, Body Fluid, Electrolyte, Ion-Selective definition: Laboratory electrolyte analyzers that measure ion activity potentiometrically, using an external reference electrode and a specific to each of the ions under analysis. The external reference electrode and the ISE are exposed to the unknown sample solution, and the potential difference between them is amplified and displayed as electrolyte concentration, usually in mmol/L (millimoles per liter).
Ion selective electrode (ISE) definition: Electrochemical, Ion Selective Electrode
Ion-Selective Electrodes definition: Electrodes which can be used to measure the concentration of particular ions in cells, tissues, or solutions.
