Streptomycin definition: An antibiotic produced by the soil actinomycete Streptomyces griseus. It acts by inhibiting the initiation and elongation processes during protein synthesis.
streptomycin definition: first of the aminoglycoside antibiotics to be isolated; derived from Streptomyces griseus.
Streptomycin definition: An aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from Streptomyces griseus with antibacterial activity. Streptomycin irreversibly binds to the 16S rRNA and S12 protein within the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit. As a result, this agent interferes with the assembly of initiation complex between mRNA and the bacterial ribosome, thereby inhibiting the initiation of protein synthesis. In addition, streptomycin induces misreading of the mRNA template and causes translational frameshift, thereby results in premature termination. This eventually leads to bacterial cell death.
Streptomycin Sulfate definition: The sulfate salt form of streptomycin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic derived from Streptomyces griseus with antibacterial property. Streptomycin sulfate binds to the S12 protein of the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, thereby inhibiting peptide elongation and protein synthesis, consequently leading to bacterial cell death.
streptomycin biosynthetic process definition: The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of streptomycin, a commonly used antibiotic in cell culture media; it acts only on prokaryotes and blocks transition from initiation complex to chain elongating ribosome. [http://cancerweb.ncl.ac.uk/]
streptomycin metabolic process definition: The chemical reactions and pathways involving streptomycin, a commonly used antibiotic in cell culture media. It acts only on prokaryotes and blocks transition from initiation complex to chain elongating ribosome. [http://cancerweb.ncl.ac.uk/]
response to streptomycin definition: A change in state or activity of a cell or an organism (in terms of movement, secretion, enzyme production, gene expression, etc.) as a result of a streptomycin stimulus. Streptomycin is a commonly used antibiotic in cell culture media which acts only on prokaryotes and blocks transition from initiation complex to chain elongating ribosome. streptomycin 3''-kinase activity definition: Catalysis of the reaction: ATP + streptomycin = ADP + streptomycin 3''-phosphate. [EC:2.7.1.87, MetaCyc:STREPTOMYCIN-3''-KINASE-RXN]
streptomycin susceptibility/resistance definition: OBSOLETE (was not defined before being made obsolete). [GOC:go_curators]

streptomycine definition: Antibiotique antibactérien cytostatique et cytotoxique, appartenant à la classe des aminosides (ou aminoglycosides).
